E3: Day 1 Coverage

E3

I just finished sifting through the massive amount of information that came out of day 1 @ E3 and I’m actually quite exhausted from it. To save you similar strain and time-wastage, I’ve gone through and selected all of the tidbits and trailers I liked.  Aren’t I considerate? You can find everything in this (hefty) post after the break. Enjoy!

The NEWS

  • A new Metal Gear Solid title was announced.  The game will be titled MGS: Rising and follow the adventures of Ninja Raiden.  Even more interesting is the fact that the game is going to end up on a microsoft console [Source].

MGS Rising

  • A new Final Fantasy game (FF XIII) will be coming to BOTH the PS3 and the 360 sometime in 2010 [Source].
  • Crysis 2 (the sequel to the PC mega-hit Crysis) is going to be coming out on the PC, PS3 and 360.  The game will utilize the new “CryEngine 3″ which im going to assume will be mega-sexy [Source].

Aside from its aesthetic excellence, the original Crysis was just mediocre for me.  The game play needed some work and the ENITRE alien part (last 1/3 of the game) was a god damn grind to play through.  If these things are fixed in the sequel, i’ll be pumped

  • StarCraft 2 is set to be released by the end of 2009 (kind of).  Mike Morhaime, the President of Blizzard, stated that Blizzard “expects to launch Starcraft II by the end of the year”.  Of course, in typical Blizzard fashion, Morhaime also mentioned “that [SCII] will only ship once the game is done” [Source].  Quality is always worth the wait I guess.
  • A new Mario game is expected to hit Japan sometime this year [Source].
  • The PSP Go was announced [Source].  This isn’t really big news for me since my mobile gaming experience begins and ends with brick breaker on my BlackBerry, but I figured it might interest some people.

PSP GO

  • GTA IV expansion, “The Ballad of Gay Tony”, has been announced (as an 360 exclusive) and should be available for download sometime this Fall [Source].

Peep these tasty Trailers too
Unfortunately, most of these trailers are cinematic, but they’re still worth watching as far as I’m concerned.

Left 4 Dead 2
I enjoyed this trailer. Like Left 4 Dead, it’s alot of fun. But I am still not sure (in fact, im quite doubtful) that Left 4 Dead 2 will be able to exist as a standalone sequel. An expansion? Perhaps, but I just dont think id pay full price for round 2…but I just might.

Assassin’s Creed 2
This is probably my favourite trailer to come out of Day 1 @ E3. Hopefully the game itself will be of similar quality.

Mafia 2
I didn’t play the first Mafia game but I heard many good things.  I think I’ll give it a go this time around.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
Now I’m pretty sure I stopped playing the Splinter Cell series after the second game, but this trailer is pretty cool so I might just have to get back into it.

Halo: ODST
To be honest, I dont really even know what this game is about.  From what I understand, its going to be a single-player-only Halo game. Say-whaaa? Could be cool I guess.

Well, that’s about all I’m able to squeeze in from the first day of coverage.  I may update the post if I missed anything significant though.  Stay Tuned for Day 2!

  1. [...] I went through ALL of the E3 news again and figured I would post anything I failed to mention in my Day 1 and Day 2 entries. There was plenty to read, and lots to write about. But I firmly believe that a [...]
